Popular Poker Games

When playing “stud” games the gamers are presented with a set of decks (typically five or seven) and are required to play with those original cards to create the best possible hand.

When playing “draw” games players can choose to swap the cards they hold (generally between 3 and 4) to increase their odds.

For “community card” games, players receive “hole cards” face down (cards which are their own) and then use the community cards to create their strongest hand. What is it that makes the cards “community cards?” The others at the table could also play the community cards.

Texas Hold’em

In the World Series of Poker, Texas Hold’Em is the most played poker game played in America currently. In Texas Hold’Em, participants are given 2 “pocket” or “hole cards” and then have to wait for five community cards that are revealed. Betting occurs in four rounds: Once when the hole cards have been dealt, another time after the three first community cards are shown (referred by the name of “the flop”), following four community cards are revealed (“the turn”) and then when five community cards have been flipped (“the river”). The players must play their most effective hands using any combination of five playing cards (their hole cards as well as the community cards).).

Omaha

Omaha is a variation of Hold’em that is played by two to ten players simultaneously. Similar to Texas Hold ‘Em there are four betting rounds however, unlike the version players are presented with four hole cards. Then, 5 community cards will be instantly exposed. The players have to make the best five-card hand using one of the hole cards, and three common.

7-Card Stud

In 7-Card Stud players are given seven cards, with one down, and the other four. Players need to make the best five-card hand using their seven cards.

5-Card Draw

Each player gets five cards. During the initial round, players can choose to trade three cards or more.

High Low Chicago

The stud game is played to determine the best hand or for the lowest hand. When playing High Chicago, the player who has the most spade faces down win 50% of the pot. When playing Low Chicago, the player who has the lowest spade face-down gets half the pot. The remaining half of the money is taken by the player with the most potent hand. If however, a player has the highest hands as well as has the highest winning score on the spade (high or low, based on the version) the player will take home the entire pot. The game can be added to and played in conjunction with, a variety of other variations of poker.

Follow The Queen

It’s a seven-card game of stud poker in which it is deemed as the next open card after flipping a queen. If there are no queens flipped and there aren’t any wild cards to be dealt.
